Scarlet Medusa… in which we journey to Japan to sing karaoke with Mr. Shin Kubota a scientist who studies what might be the world’s only immortal creature - the tiny jellyfish Turritopsis dohrnii - also known as the Immortal Jellyfish or the Scarlet Medusa.
Japan has always been one of our favorite countries to visit. Everywhere you turn there seem to be fascinating stories to uncover - and the deeper you go the more things unfold. Japan has a quality of being discreet on the outside but rich and complex on the inside. Walk down a Tokyo alleyway and through an unremarkable door and within you may discover the best espresso you've ever tasted, or a pub that is a shrine to early reggae 45s. This film project followed the same pattern... it started with curiousity about one interesting subject but unfolded into a meditation on what it means to be a mortal human being and our place within the vastness of the universe.
